CRESWELL - Congrats to three anonymous contributors who identified the above picture.... Fame yes, but only you know.... so it doesn't count as part of our 15 minutes.

The picture is from Sprouse-Reitz which is a defunct chain of five and dime stores based out of Portland, Oregon. Sprouse-Reitz started around 1909 and at its peak had nearly 400 stores in the Western United States. In 1991, the company tried to revive itself by renaming stores Sprouse!. Sprouse-Reitz decided to liquidate and close its final 84 stores after failing to find a buyer in late 1993.

And, there was one located where Knecht's now is in the Oregon Avenue Shopping Center. Signs are located on either side of the Knechts's Part Store....
